Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu on Tuesday said that Moscow is ready to expand military-technical cooperation with Iraq, stressing that defense ties will focus on counterterrorism and modernization of previously supplied equipment.

Shoigu is on his first working visit to Baghdad. He said Russia and Iraq are “long-standing partners” with traditionally friendly relations, and that Russia intends to strengthen coordination with Iraq’s defense, security and intelligence agencies.
