CONFERENCE TITLED “HUNGARY’S PERSPECTIVES ON THE TURKIC WORLD"
Speaker: Dr. Zoltan Egeresi (Institute for Strategic and Defense Studies, University of Public Service, Hungary, Budapest)
We are pleased to invite you to the conference titled “Hungary’s Perspectives on the Turkic World” that will be held on 24 January 2023 (Tuesday) between 14:00-15:30.
One of the important developments in the Eurasian region is the recent trend of expansion and deepening of the relations and cooperation among the Turkic states. Increasing bilateral and multilateral contacts between Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan attest to a new strategic Outlook in these countries. The Turkic Council’s adoption of the new name “Organization of Turkic States” (OTS) at the Istanbul Summit in 2021could be regarded as a reflection of this new strategic outlook. In an era in which great power competition has made a comeback, the growing will of the Turkic states in different strategic sectors including transportation and energy is likely to become a factor that could lead to significant changes in geopolitical and geo-economics balances at the global level.
An important development within this context is Hungary’s growing interest in the Turkic World. Besides developing bilateral relations with the Turkic states, Hungary joined the OTS (then Turkic Council) as an observer member in 2018. A year later, the OTS’ Representation Office was opened in Budapest in 2019. Upon this background, in this conference, Dr. Zoltan Egeresi will detail Hungary’s growing interest in the Turkic World and discuss cultural and political grounds on which this interest develops.
The conference will be in English. There will be no translation service.
