The demarcation agreement with Montenegro will not be proceeded this week for voting in parliament, as it was announced by PM Isa Mustafa.
IBNA news agency learns that this issue has been postponed for September upon the request of the international community, as a result of the discontent and lack of political consensus.
British ambassador to Pristina, Ruairi O’Connell has proposed to the government of Kosovo to hold a political debate in order to explain the demarcation agreement with Montenegro.
According to him, Kosovo’s government may launch a public debate in order to “supply citizens and the opposition with facts”.
Democratic Party of Kosovo and a part of civil society prefer a public debate in order to reduce political tension before the agreement goes to parliament for ratification.
The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo Parliamentary Group, Adem Grabovci says that the government must not make hasty moves, but examine the proposals for public debates.
“Anything hasty would be a mistake. In my opinion we have delayed this issue and for this, I blame the opposition. However, anything hasty without clarifying all issues must not be allowed. We should be careful in order not to have dilemmas when this issue comes to parliament”, Grabovci said.
Grabovci has backed the idea for public debates in relation to the Demarcation, including not only political players, but also civil society.
Public debate was also backed by several opposition parties, including Self Determination.
On the other hand, Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is interested for this issue to be finalized as soon as possible.
This party’s steering committee decided for the demarcation agreement to be ratified urgently in parliament, in order to give way to the free movement of Kosovo citizens in the EU countries.
