Bulgarian cabinet adopted the national strategy on cybersecurity –Cybersecurity of Bulgaria 2020, the press office of the Government announced.
The vision about the development of the cybersecurity of Bulgaria by 2020 is outlined in three stages – overcoming major vulnerabilities in communication and information systems that are critical for the state and the society, mature state of cyber-sustainability (including against unknown attacks) and leading and innovative role in several modern directions.
The strategy envisages the establishment of a Council on Cyber Sustainability with the Council of Ministers as a standing consultative body. It will have major directing and strategic functions, which will be connected with the development and establishment of Bulgaria’s positions before the international institutions and organisations on issues connected with the cybersecurity.
The Council will monitor the tendencies and the development of the cyber threats, risks, methods for resistance and the needed capacities, priorities for the establishment and development of human, technological, infrastructure, financial, organisational and doctrinal components and when needed it will file proposals to the Security Council with the Council of Ministers.
The Council will also work out regular report for the Security Council and for the Council of Ministers on the state of the security in the cyberspace, the development of the risks and a summarised evaluation of the achieved level of maturity and cyber sustainability.
It will also monitor the implementation of the projects from the action plan and roadmap on the strategy.
Under the strategy, a National Coordinator on Cybersecurity with the Council of Ministers will be appointed to manage the implementation of the action plan and other tasks connected with the cybersecurity.
The model of the functioning of the national cybersecurity system is the core of the Strategy. It will provide constant monitoring on the national cyber picture (situational awareness) with a projection on the cyber state in all segments of the government and functioning of the state, economy and society.
