Republic of Kosovo continues to remain the only country in the Balkan region without an army. Kosovo Security Forces (FSK) was gradually planned to be transformed into the Kosovo Armed Forces.

But this process remains blocked on a political level due to the lack of an agreement between the representatives of the institutions of Kosovo and those of the Serb community represented in parliament.

The transformation of FSK into armed forces requires constitutional changes, which can be done only if the support of the majority of MPs of the minority community is secured, in this case, the Serb community. But, the government and parliament are yet to secure this support.

As far as FSK’s transformation is concerned, commander of the US Army Command in Europe, General Ben Hodges, says that this transformation requires a political decision which must be taken by the parliament of Kosovo.

“I think that there is a need for political support. Parliament’s support for the transformation of FSK is important”, declared the American general following a meeting with FSK’s commander, General Lieutenant Rrahman Rama.

Meanwhile, commander of FSK, Rrahman Rama has praised the support of the US Army for Kosovo Security Forces and its development. He said that he has briefed the US general about the development of this force and the plans for the future.
