Iran is marking the anniversary of its eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s with military parades.

In Tehran, the military displayed tanks, the Russian-supplied S-300 air-defense missile system, and the domestically-built Emad ballistic missile on September 21 -- the first day of the Sacred Defense Week.

In his address, the chief of staff of the country's armed forces, Mohammad Baqeri, said Iran's lessons in the 1980-88 war against Iraq serves as a guide for "our brothers in faith" in Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Bahrain.

Baqeri also said a new security agreement between the United States and Israel "will make us more determined in strengthening the defense power of the country."

A naval parade was also held in the port of Bandar Abbas, where the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp, Mohammad Ali Jafari, warned the United States not to meddle in the Persian Gulf.
