Berlin is preparing a multibillion-euro purchase of Typhon launchers and Tomahawk missiles — while pushing to get European industry into the supply chain.

Germany’s defense ministry aims to earmark nearly €3.4 billion to buy U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missiles and Typhon launchers, according to an internal government planning document seen by POLITICO.

The purchase would give Germany a ground-launched long-range strike capability of its own to deter Russia, while potentially bringing German industry into the Tomahawk supply chain. Both would advance Berlin’s push for greater autonomy, although Washington would retain control over sensitive technology, and no production model or workshare has yet been agreed upon.
