Since the beginning of this year, when Croatia introduced the euro, more counterfeit banknotes have been found than in the whole of last year.

From the start of 2023, when Croatia adopted the European single currency, 293 counterfeit euro banknotes have been discovered in the country, the Croatian National Bank, HNB, confirmed to BIRN.

The most common counterfeit denominations were 50 euro bills, almost 200 pieces. It means that in less than two months, more forged notes were discovered than during the whole of last year, when 260 fake euro banknotes were seized, as well as the year before, when 228 were found.
