Despite celebrating “good progress” in talks in Geneva, European countries are still too weak or too timid to save Ukraine, even with a loan from frozen Russian assets.

European officials congratulated themselves on Monday after talks in Geneva suggested Donald Trump will listen to their concerns about forcing a bad peace deal on Ukraine. 

“While work remains to be done, there is now a solid basis for moving forward,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said as she hailed “good progress” resulting from “a strong European presence” at the talks.
