Uzbekistan is nearing the final stages of negotiations to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) and could mark full membership as early as March 2026, according to the head of the organization.

Speaking to the media in New York, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said Uzbekistan’s accession process had advanced significantly in recent months. While some negotiations remain unfinished, she expressed optimism that the country could soon become a full member if current progress continues.

“Things are moving very fast. If we stay on this course, by March 2026 we should be able to celebrate Uzbekistan’s membership,” Okonjo-Iweala said.
