Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had a telephone communication today at the initiative of Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim.

The discussion of the two Prime Ministers focused on three issues.

First in the bilateral meetings between the two sides in the near future. In August there is a scheduled meeting in Crete, according to information of IBNA, between the Foreign Ministers Nikos Kotzias and Mevlut Cavusoglu, in which the bilateral cooperation will be assessed, while it is also expected for the date of the visit of Yannis Mouzalas in Turkey for the refugee issue to be finalized.

The second issue  Alexis Tsipras and Binali Yildirim focused on was the refugee issue, with the two men highlighting the successful cooperation so far, under the agreement of March 7 in Brussels between the EU and Turkey to reduce refugee flows, and the need for constant monitoring of flows and genuine cooperation for the refugee issue by all parties.

The third issue was the assessment of the agenda of the High-Level Cooperation Council between the two countries that was held in Izmir on March 8 regarding transport and energy, in which there was an agreement from both sides for closer cooperation in the implementation of the agreements.

Finally, on the sidelines of the telephone conversation the two Prime Ministers discussed judicial cooperation issues between the two countries. The Turkish Prime Minister informed Alexis Tsipras that the Turkish authorities have sent an official request for the issuance of the eight Turkish soldiers and asked the assistance of the Greek government. The Greek Prime Minister assured that Turkey’s request will be discussed with due attention by the competent authorities, always on the basis of Greek and European Law.

Alexis Tsipras underlined to his Turkish counterpart the support of Greece to democracy, constitutional legitimacy and the elected government in Turkey. Moreover, the prime minister and wished for a speedy restoration of normality.
