Türkiye was among the first countries to recognize Kosovo’s 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has accused Türkiye of violating international laws and destabilizing the Western Balkans(*) by supplying weapons to Kosovo.

“I am horrified by Türkiye’s behavior and the brutal violation of the U.N. Charter and U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, as well as the continued arming of the Pristina authorities,” Vucic said in a social media post Wednesday, referring to the capital of Kosovo.

(*) AVİM considers the term "Western Balkans" to be a politically motivated separatist terminology and insists on the use of the geographical and historical identification "Balkans" regarding the region.
