The dismissal of Alexei Ulyukayev from position of the economic development minister would not affect the country’s economic line, VTB’s CEO Andrei Kostin said on Sunday.

"Many would say the economic line will change. Sure, not," he said. "The economic line is set by the president, the prime minister, the government. Thus, I do not think any major changes in the economic policies would happen."

He also said the investigation should mind the achievements of Ulyukayev’s work at the government.

"After 2000, Ulyukayev took important positions at the Russian government, and I believe, those achievements should be minded no matter how the situation develops," VTB’s head continued.

Ulyukayev was detained on November 14 the moment he received a $2-million bribe in exchange for the Economic Development Ministry’s consent to give a go-ahead to the oil major Rosneft’s acquisition of a 50.08% stake in another oil company, Bashneft, and was put under house arrest. President Vladimir Putin on November 15 dismissed Ulyukayev from his ministerial job citing loss of confidence.
