"Malaysia is looking forward to have close cooperation with Iran; we look forward to a better and closer cooperation between our countries, specially in fighting terrorist groups," the Malaysian deputy prime minister said.

Wan Ismail, meantime, expressed her country's support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said, "Iran's nuclear deal is a context on the basis of which Iran is to maintain cooperation with Malaysia.

She also pointed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s message which was recently submitted to Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, and said, "Malaysia in principle supports Iran’s nuclear agreement with the world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)."

"Our expectation is that other countries like Malaysia, which we have had close relations with, will find innovative ways to resolve this issue within the same framework," Wan Ismail said.

Earlier in July, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Iranian president's special envoy Masoumeh Ebtekar in a meeting in Kuala Lumpur conferred on the latest developments in the region and the world.

During the meeting, Ebtekar submitted a message from Iran's President Hassan Rouhani to Mahathir Mohamad, and congratulated him on his victory in the recent election.

The Malaysian prime minister, for his part, emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation.

The two sides also discussed regional and international issues.
