Delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border is conducted by working groups of government delegations based on the schedule for 2018 approved by the Prime Ministers of the two countries, the Kyrgyz government said.

The government highlighted the positive dynamics of the delimitation process. Delimitation work on the remaining uncoordinated border areas is also under way, the statement said.

Media reports suggested earlier that the parties agreed to hand over the Kyrgyz exclave Barak to Uzbekistan in exchange for the same-sized territory in Uzbekistan. However, the Kyrgyz lawmaker and member of the parliament committee for foreign affairs, defense and security Kanybek Imanaliyev said that the reports are untrue. "We did not receive such document, the MPs are on summer vacation," he noted.

The territory of the Barak exclave is 230 hectares. It is home for about 75 citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

In 2017, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan defined 1,170 km out of 1,378 km of the shared border. The remaining 208 km were supposed to be delimitated by the end of 2017, however the delimitation and demarcation works are still under way.
