Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov held Wednesday a videoconference with European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian.

According to the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, during the meeting the sides discussed issues, related to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union.

The Kyrgyz side expressed gratitude for the rapid response of the EU and statements about its additional support for emergency needs in the fight against the crisis in the amount of EUR 36 million as part of budgetary support for educational and social protection sectors.

Gratitude was also expressed for humanitarian aid in the form of food, medical supplies, which today come from different countries, including EU states.

FM Aidarbekov requested assistance in obtaining medicines through the EU-WHO mechanism, in particular through the new "Central Asia COVID-19 Crisis Response (CACCR) Solidarity Package" EU programme, launched on July 20, 2020.

The Kyrgyz side noted the importance of organizing and holding the First EU-CA Economic Forum in Bishkek immediately after the stabilization of the situation with the spread of COVID-19 in Central Asia, and proposed to hold a preparatory event in the format of videoconference in autumn of this year.

The Kyrgyz diplomat and the EU representative debated issues of project support within the using by the Kyrgyz Republic the opportunities of the GSP+ status, granted by the European Union.At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed an agreements reached during the videoconference in EU-CA format at the level of Central Asian FMs and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, held on June 12, 2020.
