Births rates have dropped in Armenia in 2016 by 2.7% to compare with the data of 2015, Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the National Statistical Service's (NSS) Census and Demography Department, told reporters on Monday, adding the number of births in 2016 amounted to 40,638.

“The correlation of the boys and girls born in the country is 112 boys per 100 girls which is a positive dynamic, considering the number of the boys born in previous years has been 113,” Kuyumjyan informed.

The head of the NSS department next reported that the mortality rate has gone up by 0.9% in 2016, as compared with the data of 2015.

“Thus, the absolute number of births amounted 12,509 which means we have that more births than the absolute number of death cases.

The highest birth rate has been observed in Yerevan, the lowest - in Syunik and Tavush regions, while the highest rate of mortality has been registered in Lori, Shirak, Tavush regions, while the lowest number - in Gegharkunik.
