Iraqi President Barham Salih reiterated on Tuesday his country’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israeli occupation.

Salih made the remarks during a meeting at the As Salam palace in Baghdad with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and his accompanying delegation, the Iraqi presidency said in a press statement.

They stressed the importance of establishing “a regional system based on cooperation, as well as economic, security and political integration to bring about stability and prosperity for the region’s peoples.”

The meeting also tackled the latest regional and international developments, as well as means of promoting relations between the two countries in a manner that serves the interests of the Iraqi and Palestinian peoples.

“The Iraqi state spares no effort to ensure that all Palestinian citizens living in Iraq enjoy their legitimate rights,” he added.

For his part, the Palestinian prime minister reiterated his country’s desire to bolster relations with Iraq at all levels, thanking the Iraqi government for its continued support of the Palestinian people over the past period.
