Iraq’s Oil Minister Jabar Ali al-Luaibi has ordered to establish an integrated oil city in Maysan Governorate, noting that the city will pave the way for other projects that contribute to the development of the city.

During his visit to the Halfaya oil field, al-Luaibi said that the ministry ordered to set up an oil city in Halfaya, Maysan governorate, in accordance with modern architectural designs, a statement said on Sunday.

“The city will be the seed for other projects that will help in adding aesthetic touches to the city,” the minister added, noting that he will discuss with the governorate officials the services sector and ways to develop it.

It is worthy note that PetroChina had won a contract to develop the Halfaya oil field along with a consortium of Malaysia’s Petronas and France’s Total.

On another note, the oil ministry has announced the commencement of drilling at the first well in the Huwaiza oil field near the Iranian borders.

The volume of oil reserves in the Huwaiza oil field, which is being developed by state-run Maysan Oil Company, may amount to more than one billion barrels, the ministry said.
