German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has said today that the strengthening of the rule of law and normalization of relations with Kosovo, are important criteria in Serbia’s efforts to become a European Union member.

Merkel gave this message during the letter of congratulations sent to the Serb Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic on the occasion of her appointment in this office.

The German chancellor said that the government of Serbia is facing important challenges and that it must continue dialogue for the normalization of relations with Kosovo.

According to the EU, dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade aims at normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the integration of the Serb community in the Kosovo legal system.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the agreements and the obligations that stem from this dialogue has been imposed as a condition for Kosovo and Serbia for their EU integration path.
