The National Political Council of Iraq emphasized on Sunday the necessity of expediting the formation of the government.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Council said, "A meeting was held at Khamis al-Khanjar's headquarters in Baghdad, attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi and leaders of the parties and alliances that comprise the Council." The statement indicated that "the meeting addressed the issue of government formation, stressing the importance of accelerating its completion to meet the demands of the current phase."
