The first set of U.S. Javelin man-portable anti-tank missile systems has been delivered to Georgia, Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria said after meeting with the United States’ Ambassador, Ian Kelly, in Tbilisi on Jan. 23.

The Javelin systems have been delivered and stored in a safe place, the Defense Ministry quoted Izoria as saying.

Georgian servicemen will soon start learning how to operate the systems, Izoria said.

The Georgian Defense Ministry said earlier that the total cost of the deliveries will be about $75 million.

Tbilisi expressed the wish to buy 410 Javelin missiles, 72 launchers, ten training systems, and 70 training missiles.

The ministry said that the systems will be used for exclusively defensive purposes.
