Ministers from eight European countries have called on the European Commission to boost the uptake of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) by requiring them to be blended into kerosene, a move they say will drive down emissions in the sector.

Representatives from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden issued a joint statement on Monday (8 February) asking the EU executive to “incentivise the uptake of sustainable aviation fuels.”

A “European blending mandate for SAF” will increase supply and demand for green fuels, the eight countries argue in the letter.
