Militants affiliated with Daesh yesterday blew up an oil pipeline in Iraq’s northern province of Kirkuk causing fires and wounding two firefighters, an Iraqi security source said.

Kirkuk Police Captain, Hamed Al-Obeidi, told the Anadolu Agency that “the organisation’s militants have used remote control to detonate explosive devices planted on an oil sub-pipeline in the district of Debais, northwest of the province of Kirkuk.”

He explained that “the targeted crude oil pipeline is out of service, but the explosion caused fires in the surrounding area.”

“After the firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fires that broke out in the area, another bomb exploded, wounding two firefighters,” he added.

Debais is located 55 kilometers west of the city of Kirkuk.

The group did not claim responsibility for the bombings, but its militants have in recent weeks increased their attacks against security forces and pro-government Sunni fighters south and south-west of Kirkuk, as well as in the region between the northern provinces of Kirkuk and Salahuddin.
