These soldiers and police officers have been guarding the state border with Bulgaria since March.

Gen Dikovic assessed the deployment and engagement areas of the troops, which are also fighting illegal migration and people smuggling. 

Dikovic and Rebic were accompanied during the visit by Army Commander Lt .Gen. Milosav Simovic and Maj. Gen. Zelimir Glisovic, who will command the joint troops, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. 

Based on a recent decision by the Serbian government and the authority of the president, joint military/police forces are being established to perform the tasks of protecting the state borders, the statement said.
