The US appreciates Azerbaijan’s contribution to security in Afghanistan, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said at a press conference in Baku on Oct. 10.

He added that the US appreciates the activity of the Azerbaijani government to ensure and enhance security in the region.

Kent stressed that the purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan is to ensure further development of relations between the two countries.

The US wants to see Azerbaijan even more developed and prosperous, he said.

A group of Azerbaijani military personnel has been recently sent to Afghanistan for serving within NATO-led "Resolute Support" mission.

The peacekeeping contingent of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces has been serving in Afghanistan since November 20, 2002.

Presently, 120 servicemen, including 2 medical officers and 6 staff officers of Azerbaijani army are participating in the mission in Afghanistan.
