Hoxhaj said that this mission should be terminated and its budget be allocated elsewhere. “On international day of peacekeepers, grateful to UN troops for contribution on building a multi-ethnic and democratic Kosovo. Peacekeepers are needed in conflict zones, but UNMIK is unnecessary as Kosovo is a stable country. UNMIK’s mission should be terminated & its budget allocated elsewhere,” Hoxhaj tweeted.

Hoxhaj, who in previous government was foreign minister of Kosovo is one of the loudest asking the UN Mission in Kosovo to be terminated saying that Kosovo is an independent country and has no need for such a peacekeeping mission. The UN mission's role has been dwindling since Kosovo's declared independence in 2008 but still the UN is keeping its presence in Kosovo through UNMIK which was deployed in 1999 after the UN Security Council passed the Resolution 1244.
