A total of 11 PKK terrorists have been killed in airstrikes conducted in northern Iraq, the Turkish military announced on Sunday.
The statement released by the military said that the airstrikes carried out by Turkish jets on February 28 between 7:33 p.m. and 8:28 p.m. local time hit 16 identified terror targets, including shelters and caves, located in the Qandil and Avashin-Basyan regions of northern Iraq.
The release noted that according to initial findings, which follow reconnaissance missions performed by the military, 11 PKK terrorists were killed in the Qandil region which hosts the terror group's headquarters.
The airstrikes were organized following intelligence regarding the location of terrorists, the statement elaborated.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
The terrorist group, founded in 1978, resumed its decades-old armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, the PKK has murdered over 900 security personnel and 300 civilians and has also lost some 10,000 militants in the meantime, who were either killed or apprehended in anti-terror operations
