President Tufan Erhürman has said it is significant that seven proposals put forward by UN Secretary-General António Guterres include EU citizenship for children born to mixed marriages and sports-related issues, stressing that these rights cannot be treated as part of a give-and-take process. Erhürman underlined that he wanted negotiations aimed at achieving a solution, not negotiations for their own sake, and said full consultations were being maintained with Ankara.

Speaking to Özgür Gazete Web TV, TRNC President Tufan Erhürman stressed that they were focusing on the seven-point proposal put forward by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit to the island.

“It is important to me that, for the first time, the UN proposals include EU citizenship for children born to mixed marriages and sports,” Erhürman said, underlining that the violation of these rights could not be treated as a matter of give and take.
