Terrorist Hampig Sassounian, who ruthlessly assassinated Turkish Consul-General of Los Angeles Kemal Arıkan in 1982, had been imprisoned until 2020. His pleas for parole were repeatedly denied by the American authorities because he never showed any sign of remorse for his extremist views or for his violent act. Nevertheless, he was released in 2020 under questionable circumstances based on short-sighted US domestic political considerations.

Recent news coming out of Armenia show that the unrepentant Sassounian continues to engage in politics with his extremist views and does not shy away from expressing anti-Turkish hatred. This shows the monumental mistake American authorities made when they allowed for his release, which will most definitely be noted by the Turkish public.
