Tajikistan has registered a new record in gold production: in 2017, the country extracted 5.5 tons.

According to Tajik Industry and New Technologies Minister Shavkat Bobozoda, the gold has been purchased by the National Bank. In 2017 as compared with 2016, gold production grew by 11.2% or 500 kilograms.

“This year, we are planning to increase our gold production by 20% to 6.6 tons. Over the last four years, the growth rate has averaged 20%, that is, we have enlarged our gold production from 2 tons to 5.5 tons,” Bobozoda said.

According to Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Jamshed Nurmahnmdzoda, as of Jan 1, 2018, Tajikistan’s gold reserves were worth of $1.3 billion.

The country’s Industry and New Technologies Ministry notes that Tajikistan has favorable investment conditions for enlarging its gold output. Due to new capacities, by 2022, the country expects to enlarge it by seven times. “Our gold assets comprise 137 fields of industrial and 127 fields of nonindustrial gold,” the Ministry says.

Tajikistan has 10 gold producers, the biggest ones being Zarafshon (70% of all gold extracted in the country), Aprelevka, Tilloi Tochik, Odina Group and Pakrut.
