The Tajik citizen who was detained in Azerbaijan carrying 141kg heroin is a member of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan, Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry said in a statement to RIA Novosti.

It is noted that Mahmudjon Ismailov moved to Iran three years ago and worked for an international car company. He planned to carry to Azerbaijan the narcotics which he bought from Iran, and sell them at $3 million.

On August 14, officers of the Astara customs department prevented the smuggling of a large amount of narcotics. Officers detained a truck, which came from Iran and that was driven by Tajik citizen M. Ismoilov (State registration number GP6925/N6775). As a result, unknown substance similar to narcotics was found in car’s hiding place. During the search, 141kg heroin was discovered. The driver said he had planned to cross to Georgia via Azerbaijan. He was handed over to investigative bodies.
