Tanjug (12 January 2017)
This is according to Belgrade-based daily Danas, which noted that high level foreign delegations are "traditionally" not invited to the event, with countries instead represented by their ambassadors.
Thus, the paper said, in addition to Serbia's ambassador, Djerdj Matkovic, "Montenegro will be represented by Ambassador Nebosa Kaludjerovic and Bosnia-Herzegovina by Ambassador Haris Hrle."
Deputy President of the Serbian National Assembly Vladimir Marinkovic - described as "a welcome guest of American presidents at Prayer Breakfasts" - told the newspaper that "as far as he knew" only the presidents of Mexico and Canada have been invited to the inauguration, while other countries will be represented by their ambassadors.
Marinkovic then observed that presidential inaugurations are "not ordinary events" and that it was "very important to know who really invited those going to Washington - whether it was senators, congressmen, people from Trump's campaign, or some other interest groups."
Marinkovic also said that "many balls and accompanying events will be held in Washington on January 20," and that "it could happen that some people from the region have been invited to precisely these gatherings, to each of which Trump will dedicate a couple of minutes of his attention."
Jagodina Mayor and United Serbia party leader Dragan Markovic Palma told the daily he will travel to the U.S. this week, to, along with two Jagodina businessmen, attend the Trump inauguration.
He stressed he was not going to Washington as a state representative, and that he did not know if anyone else from Serbia received an invitation, noting that he was covering his own expenses - but declining to reveal who invited him.
The newspaper further writes that "doubts have appeared" in recent days as to the credibility of the invitation sent to RS President Milorad Dodik, but also that former commander of the terrorist KLA and leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj may have "invented his."
