EU officials have made it clear that Serbia’s accession in the EU may only happen once there’s progress in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

In a press statement delivered today, the EU spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic said that Serbia’s accession in the EU depends on its progress in the implementation of reforms and normalization of relations with Kosovo.

“The EU is committee for Serbia’s strategic goal of EU accession. We understand Serbia’s efforts and we’re working along with this country to speed up the accession process”, Kocijancic said.

Kosovo and Serbia have been engaged in talks for the normalization of relations between the two countries since 2013.

The talks, which are being brokered by the EU, have produced several cooperation agreements, which up until now have not been implemented as planned.

Recently, the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci and President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic said that they have agreed on a new phase of talks between the two countries.
