The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed Thursday, that the ties with the European Union are important, and need to be strengthened  in the areas of combating terrorism, economy and climate cooperation and combating corruption.

A statement by his media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the President of the Republic received at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the Ambassador of the European Union to Iraq, Phil Variola, to discuss joint relations between Iraq and the European Union, and the importance of strengthening and developing them in various fields, and the support the EU provides in the political, security, humanitarian and economic fields was praised.
