Russia has applauded the Federal government efforts in ending the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east Nigeria.
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nigeria, Mr Nikolay Udovichenko, stated this during the commemoration of the end of World War II in Abuja.
On May 7, 1945, Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in Reims, France, ending the European conflict of World War II.
The envoy said the event underscores the need for providing peace and security in the world.
“We applaud the efforts of the Nigerian government in combatting terrorism and the results in very positive. Nigeria, with the support of international community, would overcome this challenge,” he said.
“We need to remember at all times that we need a world without violence,” he added.
According to him, there is no place for inference in the internal affairs of countries.
Interference, he said, leads to disruptions and chaos “as we see in Libya, Iraq, Syria and others.”
He reiterated Russia’s readiness to cooperate with Nigeria not only on security but also other areas of economy.
On the chemical attacks in Syria which killed no fewer than 90 people, the envoy said Russia stands for “professional examination of the incident – the point of the alleged attack and the materials.”
“It is necessary that experts from chemical organisations investigate the incident and after that it will be clear if chemical attack was actually carried out and we then admit the real fact based on the real examinations,” he said.
