Greek President Pavlopoulos is in Riyadh from Monday afternoon for a two-day official visit, accompanied by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, Minister of Mercantile Marine and Island Policy and the Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs George Katrougalos.
Prokopis Pavlopoulos met with the successor to the Saudi throne Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin naif bin Abdulaziz al Saout.
The President emphasized the need for European cooperation and therefore of Greece’s cooperation especially in the economic sector areas, the consolidation of peace and the fight against terrorism to the Crown Prince and as Pavlopoulos added this is because, “Saudi Arabia plays a particular key role in the Arab world.”
The 4th Session of the Joint Ministerial Committee of Greece – Saudi Arabia was held earlier on Monday 20 February in Riyadh. The Deputy Foreign Minister George Katrougalos co-chaired the meeting with Prince Saud bin Khalid Al Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, Mr. Panagiotis Kouroumblis and Sports Minister, Mr. George Vasiliadis.
Also represented at the highest official level were the Environment and Energy Ministries, Education Research and Technology, Tourism, Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media, Rural Development, as well as the Agency Enterprise Greece.
On the side of Saudi Arabia almost all ministries and many independent authorities were represented. A variety of subjects were discussed including economic, educational and scientific interest as well as subjects on the cooperation for environmental protection to promote bilateral cooperation and attract investment.
Under the Enterprise Greece Conference the wide range of opportunities offered by our country in the field of investment were presented. On the Saudi side, a short presentation of the country’s reform program “Saudi Arabia Vision 2030” and of the business opportunities that arise for Greek companies were presented.
During the session of the Joint Interministerial Committee the bilateral meetings between Ministers that will take place on Tuesday and will concern the deepening of economic cooperation were prepared.
