Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he sees a need to ensure the legitimacy of the legal order in order to guarantee justice. He made the remarks during a high-level discussion on ensuring reasonable timeframes for the examination of court cases.

“The organic connection between the people and the legal order must be established; the people must, in fact, recognize the legitimacy of the legal order. We have resolved the question of the legitimacy of the government, but we have not resolved the question of the legitimacy of the legal order. How did we resolve the question of government legitimacy? The results of elections are not in doubt. But the choice through which the legal order was established—that is, the referendum—has always been questioned, and it still is today,” Pashinyan said, referring to the current Constitution, which was adopted during the previous administration.

The Prime Minister also noted the need to clarify fundamental concepts in the field of justice: “In our reality, has it even been defined what justice or fairness is? These questions are very important. Everyone demands justice and fairness. But it is important to understand—what exactly are these things?” Pashinyan stated.
