Some 36,000 diplomats visited Bulgaria during its EU presidency, hopefully most of them will return as investors, Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU Lilyana Pavlova said during a discussion on “EU in 2018: Austrian priorities and Bulgarian achievements”, Focus News Agency reported.
“The latest sociological survey showed over 70% support for what Bulgaria has done during its EU presidency. The negative opinions are under 1%. This is very important to us,” Pavlova said. A rather ambitious programme of events took place, she said. “We staged 284 events, most of them in Sofia. This is a very ambitious schedule that increased the number of delegates – 36,000 visited Bulgaria. They got to know it better. In this eleventh year of our EU membership, we realised that we are not well-known – neither as history nor traditions, nor as expertise and qualities. I believe that during our Presidency we succeeded in showing these. I have always said that we need more self-esteem. The Presidency gave us a lot in this respect. It gave us a sense of what we are, as many of these delegates will return as tourists, and hopefully also as investors,” Pavlova said.
