A major blackout affected several central areas of the Romanian capital Bucharest on Wednesday evening, February 8. The subway traffic was also impacted for several minutes, according to local Profit.ro.
The blackout occurred around 19:10 and affected the areas around Romana Square, Victoriei Square, Dorobanti Boulevard, 1 Mai Boulevard, Floreasca residential area, Basarab area, Banu Manta, Ion Mihalache, and Stefan cel Mare boulevards.
The problem was solved and lights were turned back on in these areas around 19:10.
Blackouts are not uncommon in Bucharest, especially during winter when the electricity consumption is higher.
Romania came close to an energy crisis in January when the local consumption increased to record levels and the local power production was affected by the low Danube flow. Wind parks, however, compensated due to favorable conditions. The prince of electricity went up to record levels and several electricity suppliers were confronted with big problems.
The spot price of electricity reaches new record in Romania
