KYRGYZSTAN TAKES 124TH PLACE IN GLOBAL PEACE INDEX

Kyrgyzstan took 124th place in Global Peace Index 2016, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

 

According to the experts, who have studied the situation in 163 countries, the overall score of Kyrgyzstan in 2016 is 2,297 points.

 

The index is drawn up on the basis of 23 indicators (such as the number of internal and external conflicts, relations with neighboring countries, political instability, the possibility of terrorist attacks, and so on) and is estimated from one to five points: a minimum score of the index indicates the most peace-loving country.

 

 As for the countries of Central Asia, Kazakhstan took the 75th place (2,019 points), Turkmenistan - 106th (2,202), Uzbekistan - 109th (2.216), Tajikistan - 122nd (2,293 points). All countries in the region were included into the category of states with medium state of peace.

 

Russia takes 151st place in the ranking (3,079 points) and Ukraine is even lower - 156th place with 3,287 points.

 

Iceland, as before takes the 1st place in the ranking. The top ten includes Denmark, Austria, New Zealand, Portugal, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Canada, Japan and Slovenia.

 

 Syria, which is in civil war since 2011, is at the bottom of the ranking. The countries with the lowest positions are Southern Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

 

According to the experts, the world became slightly less peaceful in 2016, with the average global peace index country score deteriorating by 0.53 percent.
