The initiative of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to draft a strategy for the EU enlargement in the Western Balkans does not provide conditions or deadlines for the process of Kosovo integration, Hoxhaj said in a press release following a regular government meeting on Monday.

He also said that the strategy makes unclear the future of Kosovo's relations with the European Union and the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SSA) signed by Kosovo and the European Commission.

Kosovo is considered a potential candidate for membership by the European Commission.

Jean-Claude Juncker said last year that the Commission "must maintain a credible enlargement perspective for the Western Balkans", although no candidate is ready at present and it is clear that there will be no further enlargement during the mandate of the current European Commission and European Parliament.

“But thereafter the European Union will be greater than 27 in number. Accession candidates must give the rule of law, justice and fundamental rights utmost priority in the negotiations,” Juncker said in his State of the Union Address in September.
