The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq announced, on Monday, Iraq's nomination for membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2026-2028, stressing Iraq's commitment to working with everyone to protect and promote human rights.

The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khaled Saeed, delivered the statement of the Republic of Iraq during the high-level session of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, held in Geneva."

"Ambassador Shorsh Khaled Saeed condemned the continued aggression of the occupying power on Gaza Strip and the targeting of defenseless civilians, which led to the martyrdom of more than 50,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in flagrant violation of international human rights law," expressing "deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation," calling for "an end to the forced displacement of the Palestinian people."
