Iranian students gathered at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran on Sunday to protest at uncalled inspections of universities and research centers by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The students carried placards reading "Death to the US", "We Never Allow Inspection of Universities" and "Iran's Scientific Prestige Is Not for Sale".

Other students also gathered in front of Sharif University of Technology's Faculty of Nuclear Science and formed a human chain around it to display their firm determination to protect the country's scientific achievements.

In the past month, the IAEA’s inspectors had made a visit to Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Tehran. Another inspection had been made at Sharif University of Technology – known as Iran's leading institution for engineering and physical science disciplines.

The IAEA inspections are made within the framework of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers and the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Science Minister Mansour Gholami said earlier this month that the IAEA inspections of Iranian universities were carried out upon a decision by the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

“Such decisions are made by the Supreme National Security Council, and all organizations are required to follow them,” Gholami told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
