The head of Iraq's State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, denounced on Wednesday, foreign interference and attacks on the unity and sovereignty of Syria, stressing his confidence in the security and military capabilities to preserve internal security in Iraq from any disturbance.

Al-Maliki said, in a speech followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The terrorist attacks that are happening in Syria are not surprising, but rather part of the contexts that the region is exposed to," indicating that "Syria is targeted because of its geographical location, its role in the region, and its borders."

He denounced "foreign interference and attacks on the unity and sovereignty of Syria," noting that "some countries want to overthrow Syria, end its role as a state, and divide countries around the occupying entity."
