The European Court of Human Rights ruled that Greece was responsible for the degrading treatment of an Afghan asylum-seeker who arrived as an unaccompanied minor and was not given suitable accommodation.

Greece breached the European Convention on Human Rights by leaving an unaccompanied minor who was seeking asylum homeless and without an officially designated legal guardian, the European Court of Human Rights, ECHR in Strasbourg ruled on Tuesday.

The ECHR unanimously decided that Greece violated Article 3 (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment) of the rights convention and must pay the plaintiff, named only as O.R., 8,000 euros in damages.
