Hundreds of people marched through the streets of the eastern Bosnian city of Zvornik on Thursday night, clapping and chanting the name of the man convicted of some of the worst atrocities in Europe since World War II, glorifying his name as they paid tribute after his death in custody.

“Ratko Mladic!” they shouted in unison. “Ratko Mladic!”

In the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity, the cult of Mladic lives on. Significantly, many of the participants in the Zvornik march were young men who may not have even been born when the Bosnian Serb Army chief waged his bloody campaigns during the 1992-95 war.
