Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov participated in a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers in the video conferencing mode.

The meeting participants discussed measures taken by the CSTO member states to combat the spread of coronavirus infection and its consequences. The parties emphasized the importance of exchanging information on measures taken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

Aidarbekov thanked the CSTO member states for supporting the Kyrgyz Republic in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection and drew special attention to the need for further mutual assistance of partners on issues related to citizens who were forced into difficult situations.

The foreign minister of the Kyrgyz Republic made proposals for the prevention and elimination of a pandemic within the Organization.

The heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the CSTO member states adopted a joint statement supporting the UN Secretary General’s call for a global ceasefire in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic and a statement on solidarity and mutual assistance in the fight against coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

The ministers discussed a wide range of issues that have a negative impact on the situation in the regions located in close proximity to the CSTO area of ​​responsibility and emphasized the need for close coordination to respond to existing and emerging security challenges and threats of member states.

An exchange of views also took place on strengthening CSTO cooperation with the CIS, the SCO, as well as other international organizations and third countries.

The parties agreed to continue further cooperation of the CSTO member states in all areas of mutual interest.

As a result of the meeting, statements were adopted on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, on confirmation of adherence to the goals and principles of the UN Charter, and the Plan of consultations of representatives of the CSTO member states on foreign policy, security and defense for the second half of 2020 is approved - the first the half of 2021, and the decision on the distribution of quota posts.

The videoconference meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, the CSTO secretaries general, the SCO and the chairman of the Executive Committee - the CIS Executive Secretary.

The next meeting of the Ministerial Council is planned to be held in the second half of this year in Russia.
