Bulgaria is seeking access to Romanian natural gas supplies, with output from Romania’s Black Sea fields expected to reach 8 billion cubic metres a year, Energy Minister Traycho Traykov said after meeting Romania’s ambassador to Sofia, Brândușa Ioana Predescu.

Mr Traykov said that Bulgaria is making progress on expanding its gas transmission network along the Rupcha–Vetrino route, which is part of the Vertical Gas Corridor. This will increase the capacity along the north–south axis from 5 to 10 billion cubic metres per year. He added that commercial operations of the corridor are expected to begin in October 2026.
