Bulgaria has provided assurances to the US special envoy for the Western Balkans(*), Gabriel Escobar, that it will not introduce fresh conditions for the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia into the European Union (EU). This diplomatic assurance comes at a crucial juncture in the ongoing efforts to facilitate North Macedonia's path to EU membership and follows the backdrop of discussions surrounding amendments to the country's constitution.

Notably, one of the pivotal conditions under consideration pertains to changes in North Macedonia's fundamental law, focusing on the inclusion of the Bulgarian minority within its constitutional framework. This condition has a significant bearing on the country's negotiations and the convening of the second intergovernmental conference, marking a critical juncture on the journey towards EU membership.
